Beware of Kidney Disease

Last Sunday in January, I woke up with an incredible back pain. At first I thought it was just fatigue due to too much exercise. Three hours passed, after drinking two painkillers, the pain became even more intense.

The body is stiff, the pain increases and I lose consciousness. When I get up, I ask my friend to take me to the hospital. On the way, the pain became even more tangled, until I finally woke up in the emergency room of a hospital.

At first, I thought the pain was just muscle pain due to bodybuilding. However, the doctor who examined me told me that there was a urinary tract infection and that there could be kidney stones. In follow-up exams, doctors ask questions about drinking water intensity, drinking habits, work and exercise routines.

I am a worker who spends most of his time sitting reading and rarely drinks water. The possibility of having kidney stones is therefore very great.

Ministry of Health data indicate that the number of people with kidney disease is second only to heart disease. Some causes of chronic kidney failure, such as kidney stones, are due to unhealthy lifestyles, obesity and lack of exercise. For office workers who rarely travel and drink less than two liters a day, the risk of kidney disease is certainly very real.

In fact, drinking water regularly can prevent non-infectious or degenerative diseases, including chronic kidney failure, diabetes and hypertension. Since 60 to 70% of the human body is water, water is clearly an important requirement for our body and our health.

The water you drink must be in sufficient quantity and is a healthy, odorless, tasteless and colorless water that has been boiled. Lack of daily water intake can lead to health problems, such as impaired body function, such as decreased concentration, activity and kidney problems.

In May of last year, Health Minister Nila Moeloek said that Indonesians suffer mainly from kidney failure because of the use of unsafe or polluted water for their daily needs.

"The reason we tried was to discover that dirty water, besides other factors, diabetes and hypertension," said Nila, quoted by Antara. Public awareness of access to sanitation is very important to suppress this disease.

The kidneys, which are involved in the excretion process, eliminate metabolic waste, maintain fluid and electrolyte balance, and make hormones to regulate blood pressure and red blood cell formation. For the body to function optimally, people with kidney failure should undergo hemodialysis instead of a damaged kidney. If it is not monitored or monitored, we may have dangerous chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Riskesdas 2013 data showed that the incidence of CKD in Indonesia at age 15 was 0.25%. Patients in rural areas (0.3%) outnumber those in urban areas (0.2%). The number of patients is expected to increase due to the high prevalence of hypertension and diabetes in Indonesia.

For patients with chronic renal failure, such as kidney failure, the only way to survive is hemodialysis.

Hemodialysis is simply a process of blood purification of residual substances through a screening process outside the body.

Hemodialysis can prevent death, but can not cure or restore overall kidney function. The patient must undergo dialysis treatment throughout his life (usually 1 to 3 times a week) or until he gets a new kidney through a kidney transplant.

So far, according to the website of the Ministry of Health, the JKN program through BPJS ensured the management of chronic kidney disease. PGK funding is currently the second largest BPJS claims absorption center.
